Kisan Vikas Patra Calculator

See when a Kisan Vikas Patra doubles your money. The maturity period is notified in months and changes with the quarterly rate.

How long does KVP take to double?

It depends entirely on the notified rate. At 7.5% it is 115 months, or 9 years and 7 months. When the rate rises the period shortens and when it falls the period stretches, so always check the certificate you are actually buying.

Does the rate change after I buy?

No. The rate and the maturity period are fixed on the day you buy the certificate and stay fixed for its whole life. A later revision applies only to new certificates. This is the opposite of PPF, where the rate floats.

Is there a maximum I can invest?

No upper limit. Certificates are issued in multiples of ₹100 with a minimum of ₹1,000. Deposits above ₹10 lakh need extra documents under the KYC rules.

Can I take my money out early?

Not for the first 30 months, except on the holder’s death, by court order, or on forfeiture by a pledgee. After 30 months you can encash at a lower rate that depends on how long you held it.

Is KVP interest tax free?

No, and this is the scheme’s weak point. The interest is taxable at your slab rate, and there is no 80C deduction on the deposit. For a taxpayer in the 30% bracket, a 7.5% return before tax is closer to 5.2% after it.

KVP or NSC?

NSC runs five years, pays a similar rate, and the deposit qualifies for 80C in the old regime. KVP has no tax break and a longer term, but no upper limit. NSC suits a taxpayer with 80C headroom; KVP suits someone parking a large sum safely.
