EPF Calculator

Project your EPF balance at retirement. Handles the 12% employee share, the 8.33% EPS split, the ₹15,000 wage ceiling, salary growth, and the current 8.25% interest rate.

Why is the employer share not 3.67% into EPF?

Because the pension share is capped in rupees, not in percent. EPS takes 8.33% of wages only up to ₹15,000, which is ₹1,250 a month, and never more. On a ₹50,000 wage the employer still sends only ₹1,250 to EPS, so ₹4,750 goes to EPF - far more than 3.67%.

When does a contribution start earning interest?

From the first day of the month after it reaches your account. Paragraph 60 of the EPF Scheme says so, which is why a year of equal monthly credits earns 66 months of interest between them and not 78. Calculators that use 78 overstate the corpus, and the gap compounds over a career.

What is the EPF interest rate now?

8.25% for FY 2025-26. The Central Board recommended 8.25% for FY 2025-26 on 2 March 2026 and the Government notified it. The rate is declared every year, so a long projection is an illustration and not a promise.

Should I apply the ₹15,000 wage ceiling?

It depends on your employer, and your payslip is where you find out. Many employers restrict provident fund contributions to the ₹15,000 statutory ceiling, so both sides pay ₹1,800 a month whatever you earn. Others contribute on your full basic pay, which builds a much larger corpus.

Does the pension money come back to me?

Not as corpus. EPS money buys a monthly pension from 58, and the amount depends on your pensionable service and pensionable salary rather than on what went in. This calculator keeps it out of the corpus for that reason.

Is EPF interest taxable?

Interest on your own contributions above ₹2.5 lakh in a year is taxable. Below that, EPF stays one of the few places where the money goes in untaxed, grows untaxed, and comes out untaxed after five years of service.

What happens if I change jobs?

Transfer the balance rather than withdrawing it. Your UAN stays the same, the corpus keeps compounding, and your years of service stay continuous - which matters for both the tax exemption and the pension.
