Professional Tax Calculator

See the profession tax deducted from your salary in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, and five more states, with the ₹2,500 constitutional ceiling and each state slab.

Why is February different?

Because ₹200 for twelve months is ₹2,400, and the states that want the full ₹2,500 make up the difference in one month. Karnataka and Maharashtra both do it in February. Telangana takes a flat ₹200 and settles for ₹2,400.

Which states do not charge it at all?

Several, including Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Punjab. Profession tax is a state levy and not every state has enacted one, so a move can make the deduction appear or vanish from your payslip.

Can I claim it back?

Not back, but it does reduce your taxable salary under section 16(iii) if you are in the old regime. The new regime gives no deduction for it, so the ₹2,500 simply goes.

What if I work in one state and live in another?

The state where you work decides, because the levy follows the place of employment rather than your address. If your employer has offices in several states, it is the one your payroll is run from.

Do women pay the same?

Not in Maharashtra, which exempts women earning up to ₹25,000 a month while men pay above ₹7,500. Most other states make no distinction. Set the option above to see your state’s treatment.

How accurate are these slabs?

Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Telangana come from a gazette notification or the department's own published schedule and we cite each one below. The other five are shipped as a guide and marked unverified on the page, because we could not open a primary source for FY 2025-26. Check those against your payslip.
