TDS on Salary Calculator

Work out how much TDS your employer should deduct each month under section 192, from your salary, your declared investments, and the months of the year already gone.

Why is my TDS not one twelfth of my tax?

Because the year has already started. Your employer divides what is left of the year’s tax by the months still to come, so a late start or a late declaration makes each remaining deduction larger. Set the months already paid above to see it.

What is the average rate of tax?

Your total tax divided by your total income. On ₹15,00,000 with ₹97,500 of tax it is 6.5%, even though the last rupee you earned was taxed at 15%. Section 192 deducts at the average rate, which is why TDS feels smaller than your slab suggests.

What if my employer deducted too much?

They can stop deducting for the rest of the year and even give the excess back, because section 192(3) lets them adjust for an earlier over-deduction. If the year has ended, claim the refund in your return instead.

Does my employer count my other income?

Only if you tell them. You can declare interest, rent, or other income to your employer and they will deduct on the larger figure. If you do not, you may need to pay advance tax on it yourself.

Which regime does payroll use?

The new one, unless you tell them otherwise. Your employer asks at the start of the year, deducts on that basis, and you can still switch when you file your return if you are not carrying business income.

What if I change jobs mid-year?

Give your new employer Form 12B with the salary and TDS from the old one. Without it they will deduct as though you started the year with them, which usually deducts too little and leaves you a bill in March.
