Convert length, weight, area, volume, temperature, and speed. Includes bigha, guntha, cent, kanal, marla, ground, and gaj, with bigha shown state by state.
How many square feet is one bigha?
It depends entirely on the state, which is why this converter makes you pick one. It is 27,000 sq ft in Uttar Pradesh, 27,225 in Rajasthan (pucca), 17,427 in Gujarat, 14,400 in West Bengal and Assam, 12,000 in Madhya Pradesh, and about 6,804 in Uttarakhand. Several states also use a smaller kaccha bigha, often a third of the pucca one.
Why does every other site give one bigha value?
Because it is easier, and wrong. A single national figure will be right in one state and badly wrong everywhere else. On a land deal that error is worth lakhs, so this page names the state and shows the size in square feet so you can check it against your papers.
What is a guntha and how many make an acre?
A guntha is 1,089 sq ft, and exactly 40 guntha make one acre. It is the standard sub-acre unit across Maharashtra and Karnataka, and unlike bigha its size does not change from district to district.
What is the difference between a gaj and a square yard?
Nothing. Gaj is the Hindi name for a square yard, which is 9 sq ft or about 0.836 sq m. A 100 gaj plot is 900 sq ft.
What are kanal and marla?
They are used in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir. A kanal is 5,445 sq ft and eight kanal make an acre. A marla is one twentieth of a kanal, or 272.25 sq ft.
Can I rely on this for a property transaction?
Use it to understand the numbers, not to sign them. Metric, imperial, and the fixed Indian units here are exact. For any local unit, the record of rights, the sale deed, and the survey record are what count, and a licensed surveyor settles the rest.
Why is Celsius to Fahrenheit not a simple ratio?
Because their zero points differ. Water freezes at 0 Celsius but 32 Fahrenheit, so the conversion needs an offset as well as a scale: F = C x 9/5 + 32. That is also why 20 degrees is not twice as warm as 10.
