Convert bigha, guntha, cent, kanal, marla, ground, and gaj to acres and square feet, with bigha shown state by state and the rate per unit.

How many acres is one bigha?

It depends on the state, which is why this page will not let you pick "bigha" on its own. One bigha is 0.62 acre in Uttar Pradesh, 0.63 in Rajasthan, 0.33 in West Bengal, and 0.16 in Uttarakhand. Check the figure against your record of rights before you use it.

How many square feet is one guntha?

1,089 square feet, and exactly 40 guntha make an acre. Unlike bigha, the guntha is the same across Maharashtra and Karnataka, so a guntha quoted anywhere means the same plot.

Can I convert the price per unit as well as the area?

Yes. Enter the rate and it is converted alongside the area, which is the only way to compare two plots quoted in different units. A plot at ₹12,00,000 a bigha in Uttar Pradesh and one at ₹7,00,000 an acre are not close.

How do I compare two plots quoted in different units?

Enter each plot with its own rate and read the rate per square foot from the table. A plot at ₹32,67,000 a guntha and one at ₹3,000 a square foot cost exactly the same, which is impossible to see without converting.

What is a gaj?

The Hindi name for a square yard, which is 9 square feet or about 0.836 square metres. A 100 gaj plot is 900 square feet. It is the usual unit for residential plots across north India.

What are cent and ground?

A cent is one hundredth of an acre, or 435.6 square feet, used across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. A ground is 2,400 square feet and is the standard unit in Chennai. Both are fixed, unlike bigha.

Can I use this for a registration or a loan application?

No. Use it to check that a quote makes sense, not to file anything. The metric and fixed Indian units here are exact, but any legal filing must follow the extent recorded in the survey record and the sale deed, which a licensed surveyor confirms.
